Rally Day

Typically we celebrate a "Rally Day" on the Sunday following Labor Day to dedicate a year of learning together. In addition to the prayers related to the lessons of the day, a Prayer of Dedication focused on recovenanting is appropriate.

Dedication - Based upon Matthew 18 (Bound Together). More on Matthew 18.

Leader:
The threads we bring this day are unique and precious.
We offer them with courage and timidity, pride and humility.

May these threads be woven together with love.

Students and Teachers:
We are students and teachers,
bringing threads of questions, community, and commitment.
All: May these threads be woven together with love.

Choir Members and Musicians:
We are choir members and instrumentalists,
bringing threads alive with music.

May these threads be woven together with love.

Staff, Council and Committees:
We are members of the staff, the Council, and the Committees,
bringing threads of administration, service and vision.

May these threads be woven together with love.

All who choose:
We are members and friends of Evangelical United Church of Christ, bringing colorful threads with rich textures,
offering what we have to this tapestry called church.

May these threads be woven together with love.

Dedication - Based on Exodus (Crossing the Sea Together). More on Exodus.

Would those who cross the sea by serving as the staff for this congregation - planning, typing, figuring, phone calling, rehearsing, running errands and praying
please stand and join in this act of recovenanting with God and each other.

We will work with each other
to live God's covenant in this world.

Would the children who cross the sea by offering their questions and wisdom and those who cross the sea by teaching
please stand and join in this act of re-covenanting with God and each other.

We will work with each other
to live God's covenant in this world.

Would those who cross the sea by participating in and/or leading Youth Fellowship, Adult Education, and Study Groups,
please stand and join in this act of recovenanting with God and each other.

We will work with each other
to live God's covenant in this world.

Would those who cross this sea by serving on the (governing body) or on a committee and those who cross the sea by singing in the choir and sharing in the music ministry of this community
please stand and join in this act of recovenanting with God and each other.

We will work with each other
to live God's covenant in this world.

Would those who cross the sea by offering their financial support, prayers, insights and questions and those who corss the sea by ushering, making coffee, painting walls, and pulling weeds
please stand and join in this act of recovenanting with God and each other.

We will work with each other
to live God's covenant in this world.

Dedication - Based on 1 Corinthians 12 and Shared Ministry

Now there are varieties of gifts,
but the same Spirit;
and there are varieties of services,
but the same Lord;
and there are varieties of activities,
but it is the same God
who activates all of them in everyone.

To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit
for the common good.
We share ministry as we share
the manifestation of the Spirit.

To one is given through the Spirit
the utterance of wisdom,
We share ministry serving in leadership
and accepting new responsibilities.

and to another the utterance of knowledge
according to the same Spirit,
We share ministry as preachers and teachers.

to another faith by the same Spirit,
We share ministry as choir members
and with musical instruments.

to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit,
We share ministry by visiting, writing,
and calling on others.

to another the working of miracles,
We share ministry with casseroles,
garden hoes and hammers,

to another prophecy,
We share ministry holding babies and working for justice.

to another the discernment of spirits,
We share ministry by taking time to understand ourselves.

to another various kinds of tongues,
We share ministry in samll groups and in prayer.

to another the interpretation of tongues.
We share ministry as students and learners.

All these are activated by one and the same Spirit,
who gives to each as the Spirit chooses.
We share ministry as volunteers and staff,
children and elders, members and friends.

For just as the body is one and has many members,
and all the members of the body, though many, are one body,
so it is with Christ.
Amen.
