Proper 24 - Ordinary Time 29- Pentecost +22

Call to Worship

Based upon God's inclusive call of love. Copyright Katherine Hawker, 2002.

God is alive in

the squirmy children in our midst.

We will love them.

God is alive in

the beloved face lined with wisdom's folds.

We will love them.

God is alive in

the persons with whom we often quarrell.

We will love them.

God is alive in

the family whose values run counter to our own.

We will love them.

God is alive in

the unshaven man at the intersection waving his

"will work for food" sign.

We will love them.

God is alive in

the disfigured woman who finally finds a job in telemarketing.

We will love them.

God is alive in

the corporate executive who cannot fathom the value of "enough".

We will love them.

God is alive in

the frustrated youth who believes that militancy fosters peace.

We will love them.

God is alive in all that breathes.

May our love nurture

the Spirit

poised for flight.

God is alive.

Amen.

Prayer of Confession

Based upon the series of readings from Exodus. Copyright Katherine Hawker, 1999.

The Pharaoh decrees death to the foreigner.

The power of fear and hate rage surround us.

In the face of evil

Forgive us our complacency.

The burning bush flickers beside us.

The presence of God invites us.

In the presence of the holy

Forgive us our lack of notice.

The Red Sea waters stand at attention.

The threshold of grace is breath-taking.

In the company of grace

Forgive us our reticence to embrace.

Invitation to Pardon

Based upon the series of readings from Exodus. Copyright Katherine Hawker, 1999.

Hungry bellies and grumbling souls

are not the final word.

Manna and quail and water

fill the bellies and calm the souls.

The gifts of God reign

o’er the people of God.

Come for all things are ready.
