This prayer of Confession and Assurance were written in the wake of the tragedy in Columbine, Colorado in 1999. They can be adapted to respond to the current source of pain.
Prayer of Confession (unison)
Our heads are filled with stories of terror,
we can scarcely remember your words offering peace.
Our hearts are heavy with sorrow,
our Easter victory already feels hollow.
Our hands are limp at our sides,
believing our attempts are in vain we are stymied.
Invitation to Pardon
Remind us again, living loving God,
"that ear has not heard, nor eye seen, nor human heart imagined
what you have prepared for those who love you."
Death was not the end for Jesus.
Death is not the final word in Denver or even in Kosovo.
Death will never again limit your presence in our lives.
