Reflection on Hannah's Prayer

A prayer for life to fill the void.

A prayer that reverberates throughout time
for a child
for a partner
for a friend

A prayer that is at once lost
and found
A grief exposed
for the healing balm

A prayer that grows in the crevice of despair
pushing
past the boundaries
bursting forth in new life

A prayer for life to fill the void

Call to Worship

Based on Mark 13:8 and Isaiah 2:4. Katherine Hawker 2003.

The bible says:
Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. (Mark 13:8)
and also
nation shall not lift up a sword against nation
neither shall they learn war any more. (Isaiah 2:4, Micah 4:3)

The bible says:
They shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks. (Isaiah 2:4, Micah 4:3)
and also
Beat your plowshares into swords, and your pruninghooks into spears. (Joel 3:10)

Caught in the chasm
between your kingdom and our reality
we pray to you,
Sophia, God of Wisdom,
for compassion in our day.
